History - From Little Acorns
Albany Lawn Tennis Club was formed in the early 1920s. Starting on courts at Albany Road, the club later moved to Laurreston Grove, two sites in Victoria Road and Nobles Park.
In 1965 the Committee proposed that members fund-raise to buy land and develop private facilities. An acre of farm land was purchased for 485.00 GBP. It required a lot of preparation with members acquiring "skills" in fencing, and laying hardcore as a base for the courts.
The club moved to Ballaughton Meadows in 1971. The first Clubhouse was a railway container, later replaced by a builders hut which in turn was replaced in 2001 with a splendid two-storey clubhouse.
The club has staged the TENNIS event for the Island Games in 2001.
Our facilities are used by the IOMLTA for county training, Championships and Veteran Inter-county matches.
The club will continue to improve facilities and activities - it is the biggest club in the Isle of Man.
