Mini Tennis Rating Rules

In recent months, the British Tennis Services Hub and County Administrators have received a number of queries relating to the Mini Tennis Ratings System and how increases in ratings are achieved. By way of clarification, the following information has now been updated on the website to better clarify and explain how players progress through the system.

We have also received a number of queries in regards to the online mini tennis results service. Work has begun on improving this system to make it easier. More information will follow shortly on these  developments.

This information can be found in two places on the LTA website at the following links:

Nearly all the points below have been amended or changed in some way so please ensure you read all of them carefully.

  • You will move from level 4 to level 3 once you have played in 6 matches
  • You will move from level 3 to level 2 once you have played 30 matches for Red or 20 matches for Orange and Green
  • In Red you will move from level 2 to level 1 once you have played 40 matches including a minimum of 20 wins, while in Orange and Green you will move from level 2 to level 1 once you have played 30 matches including a minimum of 15 wins. (This process occurs on the last Friday of every month)
  • Remember a match can only count once, and a match only counts as a 'win' if it is against a player at your rating or higher. A ‘win’ for a player moving from a level 2 to a level 1 also counts as a participation match
  • Mixed gender matches will count at Red, Orange and Green
        • Doubles matches will count towards your played matches but not your wins total
        • In your final year of mini Red competition if you reach Red level 1, you will move to Orange level 4 immediately and can start to compete in Orange ball competitions
        • If you reach Red level 1 prior to your final year of mini Red competition then you will move to Orange level 4 automatically when you reach the appropriate age
        • If you reach Orange level 1, you will move to Green level 2 when you reach the appropriate age, otherwise you will move to Green level 4
        • If you reach Green level 1, you will move to a 9.2 rating when you reach the appropriate age, otherwise you will move to 10.2
